Antiparos Island - Cyclades, Greece
One of the most accommodating and lovely islands of the Cyclades group is undoubtedly Antiparos (its Greek name is Αντιπαρος,). It is just at 3 km from the more popular island of Paros - a strait separates the two. So, if you prefer luxury, noise and big parties - go to Paros, but if you are into more secluded and relaxed holidays - go to Antiparos. But remember - anytime you feel like a big party, it's just 3 km away. There are about 900 local people; the coastline is 57 km long, so there are a lot of beaches and natural beauty to explore. The bigger part of the citizens live in the settlement named Kastro - by the way many villages in the Cyclades bear that name. The other common name, which you will hear all around the Greek islands is "chora". This is not a name, but a common noun, meaning "administrative centre", so actually every island has one.
In the past the raids of pirates were rather very frequent.
The place locals take most pride in is one large stalactite natural cavern. It can be reached only by narrow passages. Some rope ladders have been built to create that special romantic-adventurous atmosphere, and if you use your imagination you may feel like in a deserted island in some past epoch. At the entrance of the cavern, one can see inscriptions and engravings from ancient times.
The variety of beaches will offer you endless possibilities to gather suntan and practice many water sports. The largest and most popular beach is called Psaraliki. (note that there is another smaller one with the same name).
The square on the hora is where most of the night clubs, bars and taverns are situated. Of course there are other ones, but they are not so easily accessible. You have to take a bus taxi (or alternatively rent a car).
